Ontario Parcel Build Project is Complete
Teranet Enterprises Inc., the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) and the Ontario Government (Ministry of Natural Resources) are pleased to announce the completion of the building phase of the Ontario Parcel™ project.
This undertaking was accomplished under budget and its completion positions all three parties to deliver information about properties across Ontario.
"This is a significant accomplishment which will be of huge benefit to many Ontario organizations. To my knowledge, the build and maintenance of an integrated cadastral, assessment and crown parcel fabric and its licensing to municipalities is unprecedented in the mapping community," said Brian Maloney, Surveyor General for the Province of Ontario.
The Ontario Parcel database contains information about Ontario’s estimated four million land parcels and brings this knowledge together into a standardized digital database. To date, over 180 Ontario municipalities have obtained their licence to access ownership and assessment parcel fabric information from the Ontario Parcel database.
"The success of the Ontario Parcel project has enabled MPAC to quickly move forward in using Geographic Information System (GIS) data and applications both externally and internally. It has been a critical building block for the continued improvement of the assessment products and services we provide," said Carl Isenburg, President and Chief Administrative Officer, MPAC.
Ontario municipalities, utilities and high-tech firms will be the primary beneficiaries of the Ontario Parcel mapping data. Among other things, the Ontario Parcel database has applications in property assessment and taxation, land registration, land use planning, land management and business planning. With greater access to electronic maps available through Ontario Parcel, users can improve corporate planning, reduce costs, conserve resources, plan for sustainable growth and identify new business opportunities.
The Ontario Parcel database contains boundaries and identifiers, such as assessment roll number (ARN) or property identification number (PIN), which can link to ownership and assessed value information for each individual property or "parcel" of land in Ontario.
