Teranet's electronic solutions are used by over 250 municipalities and institutions, 42 real estate boards, and more than 80,000 real estate and land registration professionals, including lawyers and law clerks, conveyancers, brokers, agents, lenders and insurers.

Working together with the Province of Ontario, Teranet is a pioneer in electronic services and electronic commerce – in 1995 it was one of the first organizations to develop online land registry search and in 1999 created the world’s first paperless, secure and collaborative e-registration system for land documents.

From the beginning of the POLARIS® implementation project in 1991, to the end of 2010, approximately 33 million electronic searches were performed in the Electronic Land Registration System.

In a 2011 Customer Experience survey, Teranet garnered a score of 86.2% for its Value Added Solutions line of business.

Teranet is owned by Borealis, a leading global infrastructure investment manager and the infrastructure arm of the Ontario Municipal Employee Retirement System.

Teranet’s information systems and technology platform have a proven track record of success, with over 99.9% reliability over the last decade and no known breaches in security since inception.

Teranet is the exclusive provider of electronic property search and registration on behalf of the Government of Ontario. A 2006 study commissioned by the Law Reform Commission of Ireland ranked Ontario’s land registration system as the best in the world.

Teranet has led a 20-year automation and legal conversion of Ontario’s property records to create a world-class Electronic Land Registration System that has transformed the way electronic data and transactions are managed in Ontario.

Teranet, in partnership with the Province of Ontario, has automated approximately 5.8 million parcels of land, representing over 99.9% of the parcel base in Ontario.
