In Teranet’s ongoing commitment to digital innovation in Ontario’s Electronic Land Registration System (ELRS), we are excited about the next phase of Digital Certification in collaboration with our partner, the Ministry of Public and Business Service Delivery and Procurement (MPBSDP), following a successful launch. This significant update expands the ability to digitally certify a greater number of document types, a testament to the real-world value created for both citizens and government. Digital Certification isn’t just about technological advancement; it’s about delivering better outcomes for land registry customers, today and into the future.
Enhancing Service Delivery
Aimed at improving customer experience and providing more efficient and responsive services, Teranet designed Digital Certification technology to automatically verify and certify eligible documents in accordance with business rules set by MPBSDP. This expanded implementation has streamlined operations and processes for ServiceOntario staff, allowing them to:
- Dedicate more effort to the manual review and certification of complex registrations
- Provide quicker turnaround times for registrations overall
- Maintain workflow for customers with no changes to the document submission process
- Align services with customer expectations to improve overall satisfaction
Digital Certification represents a significant transformation in service delivery for ServiceOntario. Documents that meet the province’s business rules, which are now built into the document submission process, are certified digitally much more quickly than when they required manual review, often being certified in near real time. This continued modernization of the ELRS raises the bar, allowing land registry customers to conduct business faster and with confidence.
« World-class service delivery starts behind the scenes,“ said Beverley Thomas-Barnes, Assistant Deputy Minister, Registries and Licensing Services Division, Ministry of Public and Business Service Delivery and Procurement. “Working together with Teranet to introduce initiatives like Digital Certification helps Ontario provide reliable land registration services that are not only simple, responsive, and efficient but also customer-centric. That’s an impact that benefits all Ontarians.”
Scalable and Resilient Digital Infrastructure
Digital Certification is part of Teranet’s technology strategy, born from ServiceOntario’s vision for simpler and more responsive services, that continues to protect the integrity of Ontario’s land registration system. It is a shared vision that Teranet turns into reality through continuous improvement and thoughtful adoption of advanced technologies. A truly end-to-end digital approach serves to strengthen Ontario’s ELRS, allowing it to scale and adapt to a rapidly changing technological landscape to meet the future needs of customers. This is essential to maintaining data integrity, security, and operational efficiency.
« As we reach another milestone for Digital Certification, it’s important to recognize the strong partnership with the Government of Ontario that made this innovation possible. Together, we have consistently focused on enhancing the customer journey through digital transformation,” said Elgin Farewell, President and CEO of Teranet. “Evolving a modern land registration system to meet changing demands highlights our mutual expertise, aligned goals for the ELRS, and collaborative efforts.”
The positive impact of digital advancements in the ELRS can be felt at every level—by customers registering documents, by the people working behind the scenes to make it happen, and by the public, as a robust and reliable land registry system helps drive the economy forward.
As a digital world-leader in building and operating registry systems, Teranet continues to innovate and collaborate with ServiceOntario to deliver future improvements to customers. Stay tuned for the next phase!
