At Teranet, feedback and advice from our customers are at the forefront of every decision we make about the future of our products and services. To thank you for your participation in the Teranet Insighters community, each month we enter active members into a draw and select one to be featured as the member of the month.
Our most recent member of the month in 2022 is Karen Matthey. We recently connected with Karen to learn more about her business and why she became a member of Teranet Insighters.
Q: Please tell us a little about yourself and your role.
A: My background is in investment banking and i spent time in Europe and Asia to assist corporate clients with financing risk management. Upon my return to Canada, I found parallels in the mortgage industry by helping residential clients figure out the best financing options. In 2011, I became a Mortgage Agent with The Mortgage Professionals in Kingston, Ontario. From there I also became a co-owner of the brokerage with 3 other business partners. I find the challenges of both brokering and running a brokerage keeps me focused and busy at all times.
Q: Why did you become a member of the Teranet Insighters community, and why is customer insight important to you?
A: I joined the Teranet Insighters community as I think it’s important to be a stakeholder in key partners within our industry by providing valuable feedback, and gaining insights into changes coming.
Q: What are you doing to innovate and connect with customers?
A: Along with many others, I adapted to a more digital mortgage approach during COVID. However, I find that connecting with clients is still key and I spend a lot of time on the phone to ensure i am building that rapport with my clientele. I send out monthly videos and giveaways to my clients, the frequency used to be on a quarterly basis but changes have been happening so rapidly within the industry that I have chosen to do it on a monthly cadence instead. I have recently been asked to do a series of social media videos for graduating university students, which is a real challenge when trying to disseminate enough information for students to get value out of it. That’s a few notable items I’ve been working on to innovate and connect with my customers.
